The Paloma

The Paloma cocktail is a beloved Mexican classic known for its bright, refreshing flavor and effortless drinkability. Traditionally made with tequila, grapefruit soda (such as Jarritos or Squirt), and a squeeze of fresh lime, the Paloma delivers a perfect balance of sweet, tart, and lightly bitter citrus notes. The crisp carbonation from the soda adds a lively effervescence, while the tequila provides a smooth, earthy backbone that makes the drink both invigorating and satisfying. Served over ice in a tall glass with a salted rim, the Paloma is an approachable cocktail that’s ideal for warm weather and casual gatherings.

What makes the Paloma stand out is its simplicity and versatility. It pairs beautifully with spicy Mexican dishes like carne asada, elote, ceviche, and chili-lime chicken, as the grapefruit’s acidity cuts through heat and fattiness while enhancing bright flavors. The cocktail’s naturally refreshing profile also complements light, summery foods such as grilled citrus salads, seafood tacos, and fresh fruit platters. Whether sipped at a backyard barbecue or enjoyed seaside on a hot afternoon, the Paloma offers a perfect harmony of flavors that continues to make it a favorite among both tequila lovers and newcomers alike.
